A message posted on behalf of Mr. Schuler:
Rancho Cucamonga HS Band and Color Guard Family,
I spoke with a majority of the band students in our program explaining that I will not return as their band director for the 2009-2010 school year. I was named as a new Assistant Principal of Discipline in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District effective July 1st. This is a bitter-sweet moment in my life, as I am saddened to leave this wonderful program, yet excited to have new challenges ahead of me in this position.
I have enjoyed every moment spent with this band program, and will cherish the memories for the remainder of my life. You are all wonderful people and I am truly blessed to have worked with this staff, students, and parents. Together, we have all taken this music program to new heights in everything from marching band to the indoor seasons. You should all be proud of what has been done over the past five years. None of you will ever know the emotions I felt while watching my kids perform in front of the Eiffel Tower or having the marching band rush me in the parking lot after the 2008 WBA prelims.
Mr. Oduro, the RCHS administration, and myself will work hard to find a new band director for this program. Please use this time as an opportunity to learn new things and grow as young musicians and performers under new leadership. Yes, things will be different, but I expect that everyone will do their best to work just as hard (or harder) under the new band leadership. Everyone will be updated once a new band director has been named. In the meantime, your field show for the fall has been musically completed, and you will receive this as soon as possible. I have been striving to operate normally and make this a smooth transition for everyone.
This is a great program. Keep up the dedication, hard work, and determination. Remember this… we never want to have regrets! Keep the momentum going, and never look back.
Sincerely,
Philip Schuler
